Hobbit Costume (2011)
(made for Rachel, for Dragon*Con 2011)
This came about because Rachel wanted something comfortable to wear for the Time Traveler's Ball at Dragon*Con. Like my husband, I knew she wouldn't have patience for anything complicated, so this had to basically feel like wearing a t-shirt and jeans.
I made the vest from Butterick pattern B4808 the same pattern I used for my husband's Aladdin vest. The shirt and pants came from a thrift store, and Rachel bought the ears from a costume prop company online. The major accomplishment here is the hobbit feet. They started out as a pair of white toe socks. I tea-dyed them beige, and glued on the multi-earth-toned eyelash yarn and fake toenails. They have craft foam soles so she can walk outside in them.
