Dark Helena (2010)
Inspired by the 2005 movie "Mirrormask."
I bought a simple A-line dress at the thrift store and covered it with rows of satin ruffles. The wig gave me no end of trouble--in the end, I treated it more like sculpture than hair--there's a toilet paper tube in the middle to hold it all upright.

The best part of this costume is Riddle the Sphinx. He's an animatronic puppet I made by cannibalizing two stuffed animals (again, thank you thrift store!). When I "pet" him, he moves his head and paws and meows. His face is a photo-quality print of a screen cap from the movie. The overall effect is quite creepy.
